Event Recap: Setting the Pace and Changing the Face of Health and Life Sciences

On Thursday, September 12, several of the most exciting female health and life science innovators in Boston gathered at EY to speak to a room eager to hear their insights.

The event was expertly moderated by Susan Garfield, PhD, who heads up the Commercial Strategy and Market Access function within the Life Science Advisory practice at EY. Featured on the panel were Laura T. Housman, MPH, Head, Access Outcomes and Population Health at Exact Sciences, an Adjunct Faculty member at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and Founder of Access Solutions Consulting (ASC), a healthcare advisory firm; Jennifer Joe, MD, a Harvard-affiliated Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital nephrology graduate turned physician entrepreneur CEO andFounder of Medstro, a leading software service platform for digital communities and online challenges for healthcare and medicine; Elizabeth O’Day, PhD, CEO and Founder of Olaris Therapeutics, a precision medicine company that identifies “biomarkers of response” (BoR) to stratify patients into optimal treatment groups; and Lauren Quigley, PhD, the Senior Scientist at 1Cell Bio, a single cell transcriptomics company that is enabling new scientific breakthroughs by developing and delivering versatile single cell technologies that provide researchers the freedom to follow their science.

The conversation ranged from how the panelists have challenged certain industry norms to affect change, examples of how they spoke out in situations when it was unexpected, and even a breakdown of how panelists choose certain colors to wear in meetings.
